Studio Practice: Ink Works
The new drawings were done in acrylic based ink and Hydrus— liquid watercolor (top to bottom). I am working finding a way to work with all this ink, since my usual way doesn’t really fit. I tried painting out all the features then just adding a splash of the dripping red ink on the top. I’m not sure if it is too literal. The bottom one with the Hydrus seemed to just become a...
Studio Practice: New Work
Here are some lovely new pieces. I am busy as a bee in my “studio” aka the dining room whipping out new ink works.
I’m trying to work with acrylic based ink now. I’m not really liking the result, I’m very particular about the nature of the “bleeding” These needed extra lines and definition to keep them from looking bad. Laquer based inks are no longer...

NEW WORK
I’m diligently working on some new figurative ink blots with a new shellac based ink, it makes beautiful “veins” when the ink bleeds. Do you like them?

Some Art I saw in Denver
Bleeding heart liberals.
This guy had some pretty amazing stuff. I was actually impressed by the art Denver showed me. Props to cold people.
Jessica Stockholder and some pretty neato site specific-ers. I dig.
I like this… not just because it’s pink.
I approve this art.

Liberation of the plastic art, kind of....
In preparation for my upcoming thesis show I have been getting more experimental. As I’ve been more interested in performance art for the last couple of years, I would like to go out with a bang and finish it (my degree in painting) off in action. Luckily I’m getting a month to really hunker down and work this shit out. Check out some things I’ve been working on.

The Wonders of OKAY Mountain
Okay Mountain is a place where there are tons of lazy artists doing practically nothing most of the time— and apparently making art about how they aren’t even around. They glorify their inability to maintain any kind of respectable studio practice.
A lovely crumpled bag and some broken glass. Photography just gets weirder and weirder. This is Ben Ruggerio’s work. It was...

E.A.S.T. stop three: The Co-Lab and Wondercraft
The Co-Lab! I always like Co-Lab, it’s a neat spot to see some crazy art. They have a garden. You’ll see.
Here’s an interesting project, it’s a front porch.
I think this is like their logo or something.
There was some action outside even though it was really cold.
Here’s the inside of Co-Lab. There were some interesting little silly-billy photos on that...
E.A.S.T. Stop two: The Peacock
Stop two was the lovely Mrs. Monica Alfonso, Carin Rodenborn, and Raphael Umscheid. They work on east sixth which is a nice area that I had been to before. Monica and Carin are professors at Texas State University. I was happy to stop by and see the work. We wandered in, and we looked around. Jeff immediately stepped over one of Carin’s paintings (sculptures?) like it was a puddle. I...
Caitlin and Friends East Austin Studio Tours: Stop...
We got suited up because it was really cold. I was a brat the whole time about how cold I was, my rain jacket had a mysterious powder on it which got all over my clothes, Brit loaned me her sweatshirt which was a little big. Anyway, Here’s me and my bike “Dworkin”, we are ready to do this thing. Man, I was feeling arty.

First Friday and stuff
I had an art ‘splosion this weekend. I went out to San Antonio to First Friday which turned out to be a pretty sweet adventure. We went to Bluestar, the UTSA satelite space, Sala Diaz, Justice…lots of good stuff. Well except for some very shitty clown paintings at the UTSA satelite space, and this other gallery that made me very sad for all the work…because it was shitty. They...
Here's who makes me want to make art →
This is a one hour biography of the performance artist, Marina Abramovic. She is an amazing artist who has influenced me to keep trying performance as a medium. Her use of her body as medium is beautiful, terrifying and always thought-provoking.
Tumors are the only kind I like
If I see art that is instantly eye catching I usually end up thinking it’s bad in a week. If I see something, and I am unsure and it grows a little bit, I usually can add it to my brain-collection of reel gud art that I like for longer periods of time. Like at least a month. Art-making itself had to grow on me like a tumor, I wanted to quit when I started painting (it was hard.) I think...

Maybe not reel gud art, but I think I dig it for this second.
Lying to myself about art: here's whats happening...
Last week I was asked by the golden Derrick to write a few lists out. The first list was everything wrong with my art right now, and the other was everything I thought my art should ideally be right now. This was a very interesting test for me because I confronted a lot of things I didn’t want to think about. The last list was supposed to be like a stream of conciousness all out attempt to...

THE PAINTER IDOL-- shud be gud.
I’m anticipating this weekend because of two awesome events, one being the DIY screen printing event hosted by me and Feminists United. But, I’m even more excited about THE PAINTER IDOL— Faculty over here are going to give us truly critical feedback on three works, presumably there will be a winner (THE Painter Idol) I love it when there’s glory to win. This is something I...
